This listing is for a half pan, full pan or bottle cap of Maya Blue. Maya Blue is a pigment originally developed by the ancient Maya who ruled Mesoamerica from about 290 to 900 C.E. This unique pigment is based on a blue dye precipitated onto clay. This blue pigment was highly intriguing to art historians and scientists alike because of the durability of this color. What is particularly interesting about Maya Blue is that, despite long exposure to light and high humidity for centuries, it hardly fades. This blue is deep and dark, with a neutral undertone. It is extremely versatile in the artist's palette and mixes well with other colors.
A small magnet can be added to the pan or cap, at no cost, to allow it to stick to any metal tin, if the artist prefers. Please be sure to select that option. Bottle caps are equivalent in amount of paint to a generous full pan.
Ruby Mountain Paint Company specializes in micro-batch, artisanal watercolors using pigments sourced from around the world. Our paints are always non-toxic, lovingly hand poured into whole pans, half pans, or bottle caps. Each color is made from pure, artist-grade pigments and our own all natural binder formula, which includes gum arabic, local honey, vegetable glycerine, and clove essential oil as a preservative. Each color is mulled by hand until it is the proper, luscious consistency. Each pan is poured once, slowly cured, then topped off two or even three times so that the pans are as full as possible. Every step of the process is done by hand, from selecting colors to creating the paint to packaging and shipping. Inspiring artists with handmade art supplies is our passion.

I have about 20 different shades of blue watercolors but I absolutely love this one. It's well-made and very smooth the use.

A heavenly shade of rich dark blue! Also, thank you for the dot samples! (Cassel Earth is a lovely brownish grey, and omg, Ruby's Gray shook me, it spreads through my watercolor paper's fibers like gold among blue, it's absolute magic! Will have to come back to buy a pan of it!) 100% satisfied!

On of my favorite paints, it wets immediately and moves all over the paper creating sensational shadows.
